How to start doing yoga
Yoga is a set of exercises that helps keep the body young and healthy, promoting mental relaxation and emotional balance. The practice covers several important areas:
- development of body muscles, muscle flexibility, joint mobility;
- breathing practice for relaxation, achieving harmony and calm;
- meditation, which develops the ability of the mind not to be distracted, but to concentrate quickly and effectively.
Many people are interested in the question: how to start doing yoga if there is no experience in this practice, the flexibility of the body is imperfect, and the names of the asanas are unfamiliar? It is worth remembering the most important thing: to start practicing yoga, you do not need special preparation. It is enough to have the desire and choose a teacher who can competently introduce this ancient science so that you experience its benefits for yourself.
Benefits of Yoga for Beginners
The first results of yoga appear very quickly - after a month of regular practice, its beneficial effects are felt:
- improvement of physical condition - yoga helps to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility and coordination, develop endurance and the ability to maintain balance;
- improved mental health - regular practice helps reduce stress, reduce anxiety and increase life satisfaction. Breathing exercises and meditation help calm the mind and learn to manage your emotions;
- increasing awareness – yoga teaches you to pay attention to the body, breathing and internal sensations. This helps you become attentive to yourself and the world around you, develops the ability to enjoy simple things around you and not get irritated over trifles;
- improved sleep - regular yoga practices improve the quality of sleep and help cope with insomnia. Relaxing poses and breathing techniques calm the body before bed.
- maintaining healthy joints and spine - yoga poses are aimed at strengthening and stretching joints, tendons, fascia and muscles, which helps prevent back and neck pain.

What you should pay attention to when starting yoga classes
If you want to know everything about yoga, but don’t understand where to start, we recommend following the steps to smoothly enter the practice without stress and discomfort.
- Choice of instructor and studio. Our fitness club has created conditions for practice that are suitable for beginners. Instructors select exercises and combinations that everyone can master. Lack of flexibility and good stretching will not be an obstacle to performing all the exercises in class easily, safely and with pleasure.
- Attention to your feelings. It is important to learn to listen to your body and exercises, to respect its boundaries. Do not attempt difficult asanas right away or if your body is not ready for it. The main principle of yoga is not to exercise through pain. Everything has its time and with regular training you will be able to master advanced level asanas.
- Regularity. Try to practice yoga regularly to get the most benefits from the practice. Even short sessions a few times a week will have a positive effect on your body.
- Suitable equipment and atmosphere. To make the practice comfortable and safe, always use additional equipment. In our fitness club we provide everything you need for an involved and effective workout: mats, bricks, and also play relaxing music.
- Breathing techniques. Deep and even breathing is important in yoga in order to be able to relax when performing complex asanas. You can learn to breathe during training with an instructor, as well as at home, performing techniques in a calm, secluded environment.
- Patience. Remember that development in yoga is a process that requires time and patience. Don’t try to quickly do the splits or lotus position - give yourself time to grow and develop.
Why you should take yoga classes rather than develop an independent practice
Yoga is not an intuitive practice, so each exercise in it has a deep meaning. The training begins with soft warming asanas, moves to deeper poses and gradually ends with relaxation practice on the floor. Only a yoga instructor can convey the correct sequence of these asanas, who will monitor the technique and safety of execution.

Yoga - how to start with an instructor and why it is important:
- Professional guidance. In a yoga class, you’ll have the opportunity to receive guidance from a qualified instructor who can provide helpful tips and options for your fitness level.
- Motivation and support. Group classes can inspire and support you in your practice. Communication with other participants will help you learn more about the benefits of yoga and better understand the uniqueness of this discipline.
- Setting. The studio creates an atmosphere of calm and tranquility, which is important for immersing yourself deeper into practice. At home, it is not always possible to retire for 1-2 hours so that no one and nothing distracts you from your studies.
Where to start buying equipment for classes
If you have decided to include yoga classes in your daily schedule and are wondering where to start, we recommend that you consider choosing equipment. Our sports club has everything you need for practice, but many people prefer to carry individual accessories with them.
- Yoga mat. This is one of the most important elements that will ensure a comfortable and safe workout. When choosing a rug, pay attention to its thickness, texture and material. The optimal mat should be dense enough, not slip on the floor, not emit chemical odors, and have a pleasant color that will not distract during practice.
- Yoga blocks (bricks). Useful for those who have insufficient stretching. To enter a complex asana, your hands do not rest on the floor, but on blocks, due to which the body is elevated and stretching the muscles is easier.
- Yoga straps. Helps expand your range of motion and achieve deep stretching without the risk of injury. For example, thanks to the belts, a beginner learns to perform bends while sitting with a straight back.
- Towel. A small soft towel can be useful when you need to place something soft under your knee or under your head during relaxation. And in hot yoga practices, a towel is soaked in cold water and placed on the forehead to cool it faster.
These are the basic elements that will be useful for beginners. Once yoga becomes a regular and enjoyable habit, you may be interested in other accessories for your home practice. These include incense, candles, a meditation cushion and more.

Simple life hacks for motivation
If you are interested in yoga for beginners and are thinking about where to start practicing, the first thing that is important to develop in yourself is motivation and regularity. An interesting question becomes: how often do you need to do yoga so that the practice becomes a part of life, and progress is not long in coming? At the professional level, many exercise daily, but beginners can start with three times a week.
Yoga for beginners - where to start?
- Schedule. Schedule time for yoga in your schedule and stick to it. For example, you can do yoga before breakfast or before bed - let it become a mandatory ritual.
- Goal setting. Set specific and achievable goals for your practice. This could be relieving stress, pain, or achieving a certain asana.
- New asanas. Try new poses and techniques to add variety to your practice and keep things interesting.
- Comfortable clothes. An important element of comfort during exercise is clothing. It is worth noting that asanas in yoga can be very diverse, when you need to stand upside down in a pose, bend over, raise your arms and legs, and do stretching. Clothing should be elastic and preferably tight-fitting so as not to interfere with active movements.
Our fitness club employs yoga instructors of different styles who know how to help you fall in love with a new hobby and find benefits in it for your body and mental health.
